This is for thoughts on like, AC, keeping track of corruption, anything else along those lines.
I haven't quite futzed out AC yet, and that's okay especially for Beta since we're not gonna do AC! But for keeping track of corruption, I think the easiest way to do it might be to have a post, where everyone has a header for their character, and they just comment and keep track of their power usage and corruption in there. It's an easy handy reference for everyone and makes sure that the corruption element of power-usage doesn't just get ignored.

ok so I think one of my characters should probably be Worst Demon Tamaki Suoh who doesn't quite realize he's supposed to be evil and instead just hangs out being rich and marveling about how clever humans are. Also he'll make contracts with attractive teenagers with terms like "MUST PLAY HOPSCOTCH WITH ME WHENEVER I ASK"
For my human I want an OC but I can't decide between:
1. Passive-aggressive yandere witch girl who will probably end up wigging out and killing her allies tbh
2. Really lame goth kid who pretended to be a vampire until he was actually a vampire, also runs around shipping everyone he knows
3. Worst Human Cassius Cumberbatch

1) Demon OC, maybe sort of low-level, Very Loyal to her master, super invested in getting humans to make contracts. Will generally try to get contracts BUT ALSO takes care of the people who make contracts because of her. They're ~her people~ and she'll make sure they're happy. Pretty open about being sort of manipulative really. Makes a point of not lying--which is not to say that she tells the truth all the time. Personality-wise, kind of a partier, likes a good brawl. So...kind of focused on expanding her/her master's forces but at the same time happy to enjoy all the pleasures the mortal world has to offer.
But mostly her approach to life and being a demon is I'M GONNA LEAD YOU DOWN THE PATH THAT ROCKS ;D C'MON YOU DON'T NEED THAT SOUL ANYWAY ;D and a side of HUMANS ARE SO WEIRD AND WEAK, WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO STAY??? HUMAN??? SRSLY.
2) ETA based on my comment in the Demons section of the post, a second quick idea. A pacted human who was sorta tricked into making a pact by a demon who took their desire!! for justice!!!! and heroism!!!!!! by pretending to be an angel (or at least less-bad demon) and lied flat-out about the pact they offered and pretty much tricked this person into bad-decision-dinosauring into a demon pact, at which point the demon laughed in her face and she realized her idealistic impulsive attempts at heroism fucked her over but good. And now she's kinda Batman I guess? Mild-mannered human by day, self-loathing fuck-up who struggles to use her pact for good by night.
Potentially cool ready-made CR for anyone interested: the demon who tricked her inexplicably keeps poking about her life. Imagine the frenemy funtimes of poking at the precarious card house of morality that keeps this person from doing an acrobatic fucking pirouette off the handle eh eh.

Er, not sure if this is the place to make these requests, but here are two things I'd like more info on about demons:
1) Appearance! SMT demons obviously look weird but are for OCs there may be some limitations on PBs and so forth. So...are there any guidelines for what demons look like? Or is it all down to how they choose to present themselves since it seems like they kinda choose their own physical forms?
2) History! Do demons just exist in hell, are there any fallen angel-types, are there any demons who were once humans who made contracts and have clawed their way up the infernal hierarchy...? What are backstory options for demons?
3) OK less an information request and more of a suggestion: I totally think there should be an "good" faction, who ALSO want to make pacts and get souls and get the mysterious artifact, but who present themselves as being TOTALLY GOOD NO REALLY!! NOT LIKE THOSE EVIL DEMONS.
I want a faction of self-righteous hypocrites basically. Just floating out the suggestion because I'm not sure I have any ideas for an OC that's like this myself.

1: It's all personal choice of form! A lot have more human forms in Gehenna, because it makes it easier to contract and also live in a human city where the doors are made for humans and not like, a hive of flies in the rough size and shape of a dragon. But hypothetically, if someone had the PB for it, they're free to be as non-human as they like as well.

I think that could work, but my one question is, because it's self-reported, how would it be enforced? With AC, for example, even self-reported AC is relatively easy to check up on by looking through character tags or something. :|b
I'm not quite sure how to phrase this rn but I guess my quibble is, based on what I'm reading now, this seems like a system that would be relatively easy to be dishonest about, because each incident of corruption takes place in the content of the thread, which is more work to check up on to make sure corruption is happening frequently enough, with appropriate severity, etc.
But if it's meant to be more of a player reference (individual and game-wide) than a means for mods to check up on how corruption is being handled (not that the two are mutually exclusive but it could lean one way or another and I'm not quite sure which you'd prefer atm) then accuracy of corruption reporting matters less. :|b Bleh I'm starting to fall asleep I hope this is clear enough. orz

Ooh, interesting... Though that raises a second question for me, since demons have malleable physical forms, are they able to shapeshift at will (i.e. adopting a more monstrous form during a conversation in order to intimidate someone else)? Or would demons be locked into a certain physical form each time they manifest?
:|a I don't think it'd be that difficult to check up on. Format like
Power usage : [WHAT WAS USED AND LEVEL]
Corruption: [CORRUPTION]
Link: [LINK TO THING ]?
And hopefully people being dishonest and mis-reporting wouldn't be too much of a problem, especially in beta. Having everything in one thread per-person for reporting means if it's noticed that someone has messed up, it can be checked through previous ones to see if there's a consistent trend or if they just messed up and need a gentle reminder.

2: History: With the way they can't enter Amabilis Sanctum, the Church's territory it's pretty fair to say they come from the typical set up of Fallen Angels-- some of them. Some are native to the underworld, created or born after the Fall, and some are ex-humans who've made contracts. However, them coming into the world of Gehenna enmasse was a long awaited event-- demons slipping into that world to make contracts before wasn't common. Ex-humans that made pacts probably went out of their way to summon one up intentionally. That said, if something seems interesting, it's probably not hard to come up with a backstory reason as to why something out of the ordinary happened to allow for it. If someone has an idea that's interesting for a demon's backstory, I'll probably allow it. So basically, don't worry about it too much! Does that all make sense?
3: whatever factions people want to make up are fine with me!! (now that I've said this someone will come up with one that's not, THAT IS HOW MURPHY'S LAW WORKS) but also yes if you want to play hypocritical templar demon that is like IMMA BE THE BEST DEMON AND FIGHT AGAINST THOSE OTHERS AND PROVE HOW GOOD I AM, USE THE ARTIFACT TO UNFALL!! while ignoring whoops sure am causing a lot of collateral damage and the powers they give out still corrupt, sure. Or any other variation of that, yes, totally cool. Go for it.
Makes sense! Will there be any restrictions on demons' manifestations beyond the practical, like the example you gave above about the doors? Since a demon might well choose to be a giant dragon for their one form because who needs doors anyway, but that would be uneven compared to someone who was person-sized because going through doors is awesome.
Makes sense! Thanks for the clarification. o7
OK now that I have a human character idea, here are some questions that are popping up for me about the world:
1) What is the current year in-game? The FAQ/Play Guide page mentions that 2000 was when the demons crossed worlds but how long ago would that be for characters in the "present" when the game is starting?
2) What are transportation options like? Is there any working public transportation or is everyone left to shift for themselves? I'm having some trouble getting a sense of scale off the map on the Locations page, so I'm trying to get a feel for how far apart everything is.
(Or, here's a world-building idea, there IS public transport, but it's all now ruled by some powerful demon(s), who charge exorbitant fares, but the bus or subway or whatever is still arguably safer than trying to make your way alone, especially for the pactless...)
3) Kind of a similar question but for utilities. What are options for getting potable water? Electricity? Does it vary by area? I ask because despite its dystopianness Gehenna does seem to be an actual functioning city, at least in some respects, so it seems like there must be someone (or several someones) in charge of the infrastructure things that would allow it to continue functioning as a city.
4) Also kinda related to the map, are the dark lines meant to be roads/formal borders demarcating the districts or are they just for visual distinguishing?
5) Is there any sea trade? It sounds like no, based on the location page, but given the mentions of floating markets and magical trinkets and so on it seems like there must be some source of more esoteric items for trade/sale/crafting. Is there any smuggling by sea? Or does all smuggling take place through Fell's Limits?
6) Related to the above, how big is Fell's Limits? Could a non-demon get through Fell's Limits to the rest of the continent if they wanted to? (I'm assuming Fell's Limits is relatively safe for the average demon compared to a human, pacted or otherwise.)

Where do humans live? There are a couple mostly residential neighborhoods mentioned on the Setting page but those seem geared more towards demons. Do humans just squeeze themselves in wherever they find space, or are there districts where the homes of the human population is concentrated?
More than/in addition to corruption, I think it'd be good for people to just have a check in on what your character/their faction (if you're the only one speaking for them) has been up to for that IC period. Then AC can serve the double purpose of tracking plot as well as personal progress, if that makes sense. Especially if you weren't playing much but your character still did stuff... Like, if I was playing Bill Gates and only had time to thread about having dinner with Melinda but off screen I also found a cure for malaria, I'd mark it down so that other characters can react to it in future threads.
Since I've never really made an OC before, I'm going to just tweak some of my original fiction concepts.
For the demon, I'm thinking a guy who used to be human but was tricked into becoming a demon as part of a "save your life and your sister's life" deal. He's pretty bitter about the whole thing and does contracts as more of a "something he's expected to do" than something he has an active interest in. He's also a former prince so he's a bit refined and has a lot of pride. His contracts are a means of his connecting with the outside world and exist purely for his entertainment, for lack of a better word. He's usually looking for desperate people (like he was) so he can show them the price of that desperation. He's more a teaching type all around. He doesn't treat his contractors cruelly but he's very detached and he very much thinks he deserves more than this. He is also very much the fallen angel type of demon in appearance: black wings, claws, horns and the like.
Human: Man, do I play humans? Um... my pacted human would probably be some danger-loving freak who contracted because hells yeah KICK ASS ABILITIES. He also had a past of being viewed as an outcast because he has naturally red eyes or some shit and has prophetic dreams. To counter his self-hating feelings, he developed an addiction to testing the limits of life. He's a very "I do what I want" type, but he's also quite social and loves being around people (as long as they don't find out about his quirks).
