Hello! So I was thinking about playing AU Deadpool for this game, but I had some questions before putting down a solid app/description.

1) I haven't been able to figure out if he should be human or a demon. I feel like he should be human, but then his powers seem to be definitely super-human. One possible explanation for his abilities would be that maybe an alternate version of his backstory where instead of Weapon X, he gets his powers from the Church. Like they have some secret division where they try to come up with weapons to use against demons. One thought I had was they they infused him with demon blood, so now he has powers not quite on par with full-blooded demons, but certainly more power than the average human does. Also, these experiments would be what drove him insane and made him so ugly.

Your mama's ugly. And I'm not that insane, just...non-linear-minded.

Quiet you. Another thought would be that he is a demon, but for whatever reason (again, church experiment gone awry) he doesn't remember that he is a demon and thinks he is a human. That could be another way of explaining why he has his powers and looks the way he does under the mask. Either way though it definitely looks like the devastator path is ideal for him and his style.

2) I was planning to have kind of meta/4th wall breaking commentary (like in the comics). I was going to place them in yellow text, and it would be something that only Deadpool can hear. Which would mean that if anyone else is interacting with him and he is talking to the yellow text, it essentially looks like he talking to himself.

3) What kind of magical weaponry is there to fight demons? Is there any at all? I noticed you mentioned in the setting section that there are shops advertising weapons and magical devices, so is that a real thing, or just marketing? Because I kind of think that Deadpool would be fighting the demons, so he would need to have a way to hurt them. Which sounds kind of difficult unless he is a demon himself.

If I am doing anything wrong, or posted to the wrong area, let me know! I'm kind of new to all this, but super excited to be playing!

1. ALL THOSE THINGS SOUND LEGIT TO ME. Go with whichever thing your heart tells you to do.

2. Rad but yellow is hard to read. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE CODE FOR YELLOW TEXT ON A BLACK BACKGROUND?? that might make that easier. I guess highlighting is always a thing.

3. Since the main reason the Church goes to lengths to get outsiders in, which is gonna be the plot point that marks the end of the Beta arc and starts the game proper, is so there's a way to FIGHT DEMONS!! without pacting with them, since holy magic is woefully not offensively based.

That said, there are some gray areas. Things that have been cursed by Vengeful are usually effective against demons, since demonic power had to be used for the cursing. So a lot of the things sold as ANTI-DEMONIC might be cursed-- but you know, cursed weaponry, also a bit of a gamble there because if you're unlucky it might be cursed to harm the wielder or something.

Also, while humans can't really HURT or KILL demons without power, they can totally inconvenience them by doing things like blowing up buildings they are currently inside, trapping them places, dropping large heavy objects on them-- things that mean they discorperate so they need to "respawn" again, even if they can't truly kill them or hurt them. They can totally take them out of the picture for a few hours, it's just ultimately annoying for demons. ugh time to commute back up from hell AGAIN

Also holy power DOES work on demons, but unfortunately holy power is just, like, not offensively based. But they can like, trap a demon in a barrier for a while, ect.

Also nope you're A-okay, welcome and glad to have you!

Excellent! Knowing that I can inconvenience demons without killing them sounds like an excellent method of going about things for Deadpool.

I was also wondering as I read more about the Devastator path if I could do a different corruption route. While all the physical stat boosts make sense for Deadpool, he tends to stay fairly focused and in control during combat. Maybe we could work out a corruption route that leads to deeper insanity? Like as he continues to use these powers he slips further into insanity?

I do think I'm going to work with the idea of him being a demon that has no real memory of being a demon. So for all intensive purposes he will be a human who probably thinks he has a pact with some demon but can't remember who since he has no memory before waking up in some sort of body dump somewhere.

Also, to all the other players, Deadpool is fairly social, and typically is used by others if they want a scapegoat or someone to do a task requiring hands to get dirty.

Hrm. You have two options re: corruption there. A: you can just be careful about what corruptions you take. Since you probably won't be using SUPER GOD-MODE MASSIVE CORRUPTION abilities, you can just take corruptions that won't effect combat, like finding kittens really obnoxious. Option B I think would be... a lot of the powers are written in a way that with some creativity can be used other than the obvious way. If the abilities you are after are the physical stat boosts, you could do a Trangressor, that didn't receive powers that have anything to do with machines, but just use idk, demonic chemicals that would be toxic to anyone but a transgressor to alter body composition for strength or endurance boosts.

ACTUALLY WAIT IF HE'S ACTUALLY A DEMON. he shouldn't be taking corruption. when demons use magic it just eats away at the power they have to maintain their form. More like a typical RPG pool of MP, basically.

Ahhhhh...okay. I thought that both demons and humans used the same corruption paths, just differently.

Alright, I think I have enough to go off of, I'll be putting up a fleshed out backstory/character info soon.

Demons should probably have a path that suits them, yeah, but they don't take the corruption from using abilities so you can be a little more liberal. And rad!

Hello kids! It's storytime, with your friend, Deadpool!

Once upon a time, there once was a man named Wade Wilson. This guy was super cool and awesome and totally the best mercenary that ever was. He was well-liked by all his friends and co-workers and no one ever tried to stab him in the back and leave him for dead.

But then, disaster struck! Despite being a super-awesome dude, Wade had found an enemy that he was unable to kill no matter how many grenades and guns he used. That enemy was cancer! Luckily, the church had a program available to help out those with such unfortunate maladies. The program was supposed to help find some sort of weapon that could kill demons or some such nonsense, I didn't...I mean, Wade didn't pay all that much attention to it.

Nice save.

Thanks. Anyway, Wade died in the program, horribly disfigured and left dumped in a back alley somewhere for rats to gnaw on. The end. :D

That was the dumbest story I've ever heard. And clearly not true. And how did you even pronounce an emoticon?

It's true enough. Besides, stories are always better with a happy ending. I mean, it's not like it really matters.

-------------

Deadpool has very little memory of his life before waking up in a ramshackle apartment in the Viath Docks. He has pieced together from shards of memory that he used to be a mercenary named Wade Wilson, and that some experiment with the church made him the way he is. He seems to have super-human stamina and strength, as well as a healing ability that allows him to heal basically any wounds and even grow back body parts. However, it is a slow and painful process that usually leaves him weakened afterwards. He tends to ignore this though, as most of his combat style consists of throwing as much ordnance at the enemy as possible until it stops moving.

He is known as "The Merc with a Mouth" because he rarely shuts up and is constantly making jokes. Also, he seems to talk to himself a lot.

He isn't talking to himself, he's talking to me. It's just that no one else can hear what I say. Probably because he's completely insane.

Right, there is that too. Anyway, the truth of his background is that Deadpool is in fact a demon. The church had managed to capture a lesser demon and perform experiments on it. Their goal was to find a way to turn the demon into a weapon capable of hurting it's own kind and having it fight for humanity. However, the demon broke loose and attempted to escape, killing a soldier by the name of Wade Wilson in the fight. In the ensuing fight, the demon was destroyed and the project cancelled shortly afterwards.

The demon, however, was not as finished as the church thought. Instead, he projected his essence into the body of Wilson as a last ditch effort to stay alive. Unfortunately, this process robbed him of his memories and most of his powers. Now his mind is a swirling vortex containing both the memories of Wade Wilson and the demon Deadpool. And not even they know who the yellow words are.

I switched to a different shade of yellow...I think it works a little better. Let me know if I should try a different one still.

Also, I forgot to mention that I'm open to interacting with anyone. Deadpool is basically the same as he is in the comics, a merc for hire to anyone willing to pay. This means he tends to get caught up in larger plots and scenarios then he really knows is going on, and also tends to be the one left holding the bag when the shit hits the fan.

The new shade is definitely easier to read for me. Though, I think it's still worth trying out yellow text on a black highlight and seeing how that works.
